Author Event - "Open Spaces: Voices from the Pacific Northwest" by Penny Harrison 10/22/2011 2:00 pm
10/22/2011 4:00 pm
Open Spaces: Voices from the Pacific Northwest, an invaluable book for thoughtful readers seeking an understanding of the relationships between nature, culture, literature, and public policy. Griffin Bay Bookstore and the San Juan Island Library are pleased to host Penny Harrison, editor of Open Spaces on Saturday afternoon, October 22, 2:00—4:00. Penny will provide us with extra insight into the anthology’s lineup of 30 writers from the Pacific Northwest, sign copies, and talk about the magazine, Open Spaces, hailed as being on the cutting edge of thinking about the Pacific Northwest. It’s an intelligent, provocative, beautifully conceived magazine offering readers new ways to understand the region, themselves, and many of the major issues of our time. The writers in this new anthology—poets, novelists, essayists, thinkers—collectively apply their expertise and talent to provide an intelligent and informed context through which to see public issues and make sense of the changes that continue to shape the region and our world. Individually, they touch on our deepest sense of human experience and continuity and reflect the spirit of the Northwest. Individually, they touch on our deepest sense of human experience and continuity and reflect the spirit of the Northwest. Writer Molly Gloss (The Hearts of Horses & The Jump-Off Creek) put it this way: “Writers with deep roots in this place are gathered here to tell us old stories of the land that has shaped our character. Open Spaces is a gift.” Griffin Bay Bookstore and the San Juan Island Library encourage all who care deeply about our region to come and meet Penny on the 22nd.
